Earthworks Urban Farm, a project of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, promotes the importance of locally grown food.  A volunteer at Earthworks does hands-on work in the garden and helps mentor youth and other guests of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in food production, distribution and preparation.
The Rosa Parks Youth Program, a project of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen is grounded in nonviolence - helping kids to discover and speak from their emotional experience.  The volunteer will assist with the art therapy program, as well as tutor and mentor elementary, middle shool and high school aged kids. 
Alternatives for Girls is an organization that empowers high-risk girls and young women to make positive choices.  A Cap Corps volunteer is needed to assist in the outreach program of AFG - providing resources and information to young women who are engaged in sex work, injection drug use and/or who are at risk of homelessness.  A volunteer opportunity may also be available within the shelter program of AFG, which provides emergency shelter to single adult women, expecting mothers and women with children. 
Vanguard Community Development Corporation has provided economic and housing development for the North End Neighborhood of Detroit for 15 years. A Cap Corps volunteer is needed for community organizing and implementation of a direct-service component to Vanguard's services.
